In times of moral crisis, silence is often the greatest enemy. The story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and the German church during Hitler’s rise serves as a stark reminder of the consequences when God’s people fail to speak out. As Christians, we are called to stand for truth, justice, and the Gospel.
The Value of Freedom of Speech:
Freedom of speech is a precious gift, but it holds no value if we remain silent in the face of evil. Reflecting on Romans 10:9-10, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” This passage reminds us that our faith is both a belief and a proclamation.
The Great Commission:
Matthew 28:19-20 commands us, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Our mission as Christians is to spread the Good News and to stand firm in our faith.
The Challenge – An Act of Faith:
In today’s world, where we see increasing attacks on moral and spiritual values, we must take a stand. I challenge you to make a visible statement of your faith. Place a sign in your yard that reads, “Pray for America.” Let this be a daily reminder to you and your neighbors to pray for our nation, to seek God’s guidance, and to courageously speak the truth in love. Conclusion:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” Let us not be guilty of silence. Let us be bold in our proclamation of faith, trusting that God is with us as we speak His truth and spread His message. Take up the challenge, place the sign in your yard, and commit to praying for our country daily.
John, such a relevant and important point at this time in history. Many Christians think it is best to remain silent in the “political” arena. But, today we are standing against evil and Christian’s are needed to take a stand, speak out and pray.
